Processing Calves

When we bring the calves in, we process them,  What this is, is vaccinating, marking and fly tagging each calf, and castrating the males.

Each calf gets an ear mark.  An ear mark is a specific cut to the ear, which identifies which ranch the calf belongs to.  They then get this orange fly tag to help prevent the flies from biting so much during the summer months.

We have a lot of great cowboys and cowgirls that help with the processing of our claves.  Our "brandings" start in April and it is usually the second weekend of June before we get all the calves in and processed.  We call it "branding"., even though we don't actually brand our calves.  We will brand any heifers that we keep, later on in the year.  So all of our cow herd and bulls are branded.
